The Katsina State Government has constituted a special committee to investigate and address the problem of malnutrition in the state.
The approval for the committee was granted by Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, Ph.D., CON, according to a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet and Security, Geol. Aminu Tukur.
The inauguration is scheduled for Wednesday, 13 August 2025, at 11:00 am, at the Upper Council Chamber, General Muhammadu Buhari House, and will be performed by the Deputy Governor, Malam Faruk Lawal Jobe.
The committee is chaired by Dr. Ahmed Abdullahi Filin-Samji of Zakkat and Waqaf Board, with the Chairman of the Civil Society Organisation (CSO), Abdulrahman Abdullahi, as Vice Chairman. Other members include representatives of the State House of Assembly, Ministry of Special Duties, State Primary Healthcare Agency, Katsina State Radio, State Bureau of Statistics, KATSIPA, KASEDA, Community Development Programme (CDP), ALGON, Katsina and Daura Emirates, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), and Izala, Darika sects.
The committee is mandated to:
Identify vulnerable households in the affected areas, Review the recent MSF report on nutrition, Pinpoint areas most affected by malnutrition, Recommend additional interventions to address the crisis, Advise on modalities for the distribution of assorted grains to targeted households, Submit its report within two weeks of inauguration.
The committee is also authorised to co-opt individuals or groups to support its assignment.
